Patents - a no-brainer in business.

Online Marketers often overlook the world of patents and licensing - which is strange because it's probably even more lucrative than squatting on domain names or optimizing websites for lead generation initiatives.

Patents are sort of the world of ideas - at least how I see it. You have an idea - perhaps with the intention of building a business or empire behind it. Sometimes you do - but even if you don't, if you've patented the idea it is almost like buying land.

You see - buying land - or real estate - allows you to own the rights without ultimately doing anything else. Sure - there will be some costs involved - but what business doesn't have over-head?

One day, you may build on the land or sell it years later for ten times what you paid for it. Or you'll lease it out and make money over and over again on a monthly basis. Doing the same with your patent - that is collecting residual income on allowing someone to use those rights - is a no-brainer for long term business ventures. You pay a little for the patent - and years later the idea returns you monthly revenue or one big payout.

Sounds like a plan - or a business plan that is - to me.
