Google sets out to make Facebook obsolete
We knew this was going to happen sooner or later.
It is being heavily speculated that Google is planning to launch what they call a "Facebook killer," said to make Facebook obsolete. The service, rumored to be called Google Me, will combine three of Google's existing social networking services: Orkut (like Facebook, Buzz (like Twitter) and Google Profiles.
You'll likely need a Gmail or Google account to begin the Google Me process, which means that Google will be starting with approximately 200 million people that will embrace this service, since they already own one of these two accounts. Facebook has 400 million members. The numbers seem pretty daunting for Facebook if Google executes this right. Google Me will put everything in one place for users: their email, social networking, search engine, Blogger, Picasa, YouTube accounts, etc. For marketers this is also a big advantage because we already use Google Ad Words and other Google advertising functions.
I can't wait to see what Google Me has to offer. It provides marketers with so many more targeted marketing opportunities because information much more integrated.
